Of course, we all love salad, vegetables and co. Nonetheless, who really wants to go without their favorite sides of pasta and rice to stay in shape? The two startup nerds Cyrille & Anja were no exception. Long story short, they founded Shileo in 2017 - with guaranteed guilt-free noodles and 'rice'.
This is due to Amorphophallus konjac, or konjac for short, the main ingredient of their products. Admittedly unlikely to win any beauty competitions, the Asian root ticks all the boxes in nutritional terms. Made with the low-calorie, carb-reduced flour of the konjac root, Shileo konjac noodles have the same calories as 100 g zucchini. Moreover, Shileo konjac rice has only a fraction of the calories of regular rice and less than 2g carbohydrates per 100g. This makes Shileo konjac pasta and rice ideal staple substitutes for athletes and diabetics, or those on low-carb, HCG or keto diets.
Normally available in a brine smelling strongly of fish, Shileo is one of the first suppliers on the European market to offer all konjac products from konjac noodles to konjac rice exclusively in dried form.
And it gets better. Studies carried out by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and others found that konjac aids weight loss* This effect can be attributed to the fiber konjac glucomannan that occurs naturally in the konjac root, whose enormous capacity to swell quickly leads to a feeling of fullness. Incidentally, when it comes to taste, konjac pasta is similar to rice or glass noodles, making it perfect for Asian dishes. By contrast, the neutral flavor of konjac rice means it is suitable for both sweet and savory dishes, such as carb-reduced milk pudding, risotto and low-carb sushi.
